Melacca was a joy, most of our sightseeing was done on foot in and around the old township.
A 1hr ride on the flowered tricyles cost us 40myr and was delightful. Take our advice don't miss an evening meal at the Baba House this was without a doubt the best meal we had in our 5 weeks holiday.

Location is really great - just opposite the hotel is Melaka's biggest shopping centre - mahkota parade. You can spend a greater part of the day shopping - lots of stuff and variety, fashion, supermarket, etc. Especially great for families with kids - to pick up essentials and there's MacDonald's, KFC, Kenny rogers chicken, etc. My visits to Melaka usually includes at least one round of golf. There are various clubs there - Tiara Melaka, Golden Valley and Orna - all within close distance of one another. These courses are also rather challenging which makes the game much more enjoyable. Orna is the only club to offer night golfing though (not sure if they still do...) There's also this Teochew restaurant near Jonker Street which serves authentic Teochew stuff. Biz is so good that you have to make advance reservations..... Pricey though.

We have been to Melaka numerous times and it is an ideal place for food hopping. From restaurants to roadside stalls, you can find all sorts of delicious food. It is interesting to walk Jonker street with its many antiques shops. Bargaining is a way of life at these places. As we were travelling with a toddler, we found the trishaw rides a convenient and interesting way to get around. The river cruise is also worth trying. Both beat walking after being on your feet all day to take in the sights.

Our group of 12 took a tri-shaw tour of the local sites. The Malay Village with the Living Museum was the highlight as well as China Hill (Cina Bukit). The well is must see too. We also ate Nonya food at the Bull Dog Cafe which is very family freindly and has a great koi pond in the middle of the restaurant. The owner let the young children feed the koi as a special treat! Food was great and the atmosphere very relaxed!

We spend most of the time in Melacca at the old town. There is a number of museums and historical sites. Especially the museum in the old Dutch "Stadhuys" was very interesting, telling the story of Melacca from the very first beginning, to the present. Also a walk in the old town is like walking through the history.

Malacca is a place with quiet charms. If you are used to Southeast Asia, you'll enjoy sitting by the sea (in the Portuguese Village or at the beaches north of the city) and drinking a cold beer while the sun sets over the straits. The midday sun is beastly hot, however. And transport is not easy, unless you have your own.

Initially I was a little disappointed with Melaka, although this was perhaps influenced by a bad hotel experience clouding my judgment.
A change to a better hotel did lead to me seeing the city in a much better light.
There's lots to see and do, although it did seem a little like a city living on its history, but left behind a bit now.
I'd definitely recommend the boat trip we took on the river by Parameswara Tour, located between the tourist office and the Maritime museum. A real bargain at only RM8 each for a trip advertised as lasting 45 mins. But actually was nearly an hour with a very informative and entertaining guide.

Malacca was quite an historical place :) almost all of the building roof are ment in the sharp edged roof and colored in red. Well, popular things there was Afamosa, and another one is the Tan Kim Hock Dodol :p taste quite good, but it's quite expensive there. The factory is right at somewhere in the heart of the Pusat Bandar! :)
well, next nice thing would be the Afamosa resort! It's packed with wild wild west, animal safari, golf course, water world, and many more! Too much to visit in that place, only manage to visit the animal world. The animal show was fanstatic! Birds talking, eagle flying, and great host too! But on peak season, it's really crowded. Lining up for ticket was a disaster... luckily they have fans around...
