We spent half a day only in Macau. Must see areas are the colonial centre around Largo de Senado - see the old colonial buildings and squares. Very picturesque and well preserved. Also the “Ruinas de Sao Paulo” – the derelict church, destroyed by fire in 1835 and today symbolising Macau.

The parks are pleasant and weather is conducive for walks in April. It's a great place to find bargains for branded clothes that are run-off-mill or a little off quality checks at the back alleys, small shops and markets. Portugese food is authentic and relatively reasonable too. We found the servings of rice really huge making it very affordable to eat one serving for two. Try the pastries too they're really fresh and yummy. However, the place is a bit tiny, 3 days is sufficient plus time for the casinos too!

My husband commented that Macau was bigger than when he last visited some 8 years ago - quite literally, because of the immense amount of land reclamation that has been going on. We loved the Largo de Senado, but were sad to see that some of its old world charm was spoilt by the takeover of big time shopping options. We highly recommend climbing the Guia Hill to the lighthouse and fortress, especially via the gardens where a variety of animals and plants can be seen away from the hubbub of the city.
Our tip - walk as often as you can but get a good and detailed map of the city. It's amazing how long you can spend completely disoriented in a tiny alley in a place this small. We also had a fun meal on Taipa. The Portuguese food is fabulous!

We went to Hac Sa Beach in Cologne and it was fun for kids. The Portugese restaurant Fernandos appear to be very popular - the waiting time is 3 hours+ and we didn't bother to wait. We tried the one across the street (Hac Sa Beach restaurant) and they are quite good too. One interesting thing about eating in Portugese restaurant is that you not only taste the food, you also experience the relaxed (and sometimes disorganized) European atmosphere. The experience is cool.
We also visited the Macau Tower. The view from up there is very good and we enjoyed the visit. They have a family ticket package for $140 (2 adult + 1 child) and that was a bonus. The Pork Chop Bun sold at the bottom of tower outside the convention center was very yummy.

As we only spent one day and one night here we wanted to see as much as we could. We reserved two places on a bus tour when we arrived at the ferryport. The tour was operated by Grayline and covered most of Macau's tourist highlights in Macau and Taipa including Macau Tower (10th highest building in the world). The tour cost only HK$98.

I took a ferry from Hong Kong ferry terminal which cost HK$93, the name is Turbo Jet. There are a few more ferry company but it cost more than HK$100. Tickets can be bought in advance. When reaching Macau, free transfer buses can be taken outside the Macau ferry, left turn from the exit, by showing the driver the hotel booking slip (just find out when leaving Macau). Or you may want to join the quick few famous attractions tour, last about 3 hours, from the local guides which cost about HK$150 per pax (I bargain till HK$100 per pax), they will send you to the hotel after the tour.

The hotel is located at the very convenient place for sightseeing. I can recommend to my friends this hotel depend on the room. Anyway the price is attractive. My favorite place in Macao are Guia lighthouse and Maritime Museum. The junkboat trip from that Museum was very fun. Rua do Cunha (for meal) and House Museum of Taipa Island are also good.

If you are going to Macau to gamble and are expecting a "las vegas" style experince then you should not spend the time in Macau. The casinos are all small, crowded, and poorly run. Games are few with little action or excitement to speak of.
