Hong Kong is one of our favorite places to visit since it has a great selection of restaurants, good places to visit, and is easy to get around.
The best restaurant on our trip this time was Maxim's for dim sum on Sunday. Best to get there early since the lines start forming around 11.30am. There are several in this chain but the one in the town hall, on Hong Kong island, really is outstanding. At Pacific Place on the third floor is an excellent Shanghainese restaurant called Ye Shanghai. Food, service and ambience were all top notch.
After filling up on a big feast we really enjoyed a walk around the bird sanctuary on HK island. A great variety of very colorful and exotic birds can be seen -- and its Free! And of course any trip to Hong Kong is not complete until you've been on the Star Ferry. Its a romantic way to see Kowloon and HK island.
I was also very impressed that while travelling with our 12 month old baby HKers were very helpful to us as parents, letting us jump to the head of the queue on many occasions.

Hong Kong remains a diverse and interesting city to explore. Beyond the many sites of the city, one should consider taking boat trips to some of the outlying islands to get a sense of a less urban and contemporary lifestyle than that encountered in Hong Kong proper.

Stayed at YMCA - The Salisbury - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

The hotel link shuttle to and from the Y was very convenient, and with the promotional fare given, it was the same cost as taking the public transport, with the advantage of door to door transport and with someone to help you with the luggage.
Take some of the tours for the outlying islands; they are worth it and will give you a different view of Hong Kong. Also, check out the walking trails in the New Territories.

Hong Kong is very easy to navigate. All the hotels will provide you with an excellent map of TST in Kowloon and Central. Almost everything is within walking distance. The MTR is very easy and convenient to use. Taxi's are also plentiful. However, it is a good idea to have your concierge write down your intended address in Chinese and the name and address of your hotel, as there are quite a few taxi drivers who don't speak English.
A great night spot is Lan Kwai Fong on Hong Kong Island. There are a whole slew of bars are restaurants located within a couple of blocks. A couple of other great bars are Carnegie's and Banana Joe's in Wanchai. Check out Soho for ethnic restaurants, all of which are on the island. In TST check out Gaylord's for Indian, Fat Angelo's for homestyle Italian (there is another one in Soho) and Dan Ryan's for a good steak. It's a good idea to make reservations, because most restaurants are always packed.
To get the latest rugby scores, look for The Kangaroo Bar and Delany's is a good Irish Pub with live music, both are in TST. The Dublin Jack, located in Mid-levels, is also a great sports bar and popular with expats. They always have on a football (soccer) or rugby match.

Stayed at Harbour Plaza Hotel Hong Kong - Hong Kong, Hong Kong.

If getting money exchanged, only change a small amount at the airport -- the exchange rate is really bad at the airport. Also, while the airport hotel-link shuttle appears to save some money, our experience with the shuttle service was not good. It took almost 2.5 hours to reach our hotel and was not worth the $60 HK we saved by taking the shuttle.
I would highly recommend that one take the harbour cruise at night. The skyline is amazing and from a harbour cruise one gets the opportunity to view it all.

There was one of these great restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui, which is called "Tong Chiu" in Cantonese language, you should try the desserts there as the sweet temptation is so irresistible. Other than that, try to walk in one of the daymarket near The Charterhouse, seeing the life of the Hong Kong people is already a very interesting thing!

Hong Kong was amazing, something I wasn't expecting. The skyline from Kowloon to HK is spectacular and has to be seen at night. The trip on the Star Ferry is great and so cheap and the night markets are amazing! HK felt like a safe city and it was really easy to get around. Try the escalator, the longest in the world!!! Had a wonderful lunch in a dumpling house and a disgusting meal in the night market!!! Do you homework!

I had a free and easy tour and Hong Kong is a great place! Most people think that you can only shop in Hong Kong, but this is totally not true. I did quite a lot of treking there and Ocean Park is really great!
