| Guest comments | Beautiful hotel with amazing staff, my tour bus left without me one morning but the hotel concierge, even though he had no affiliation the tour group company, went out of his way to contact them and told me how to catch them up and got them to wait for me!
About 20-25 mins walk from the huge amazing Kyoto station but even if you don't like walking, this walk is lovely to and from the hotel and the station as you walk past a VERY old temple which apparently is one of the largest wooden structures in the world! It is still in use and you can go in and pray (or just look around). I would HIGHLY recommend this hotel and fully intend to stay here again on my next trip to Kyoto! |

| Guest comments | We found the hotel is a good location. Only minutes to the subway. It was also walking distance to the market which is a must visit, the river, shops and restaurants. The staff were friendly and took the time to show us to our room and explain things to us. The bar, however, closes early. Would definitely stay there again. |

| Guest comments | Very easy to find, just along from Starbucks outside exit 2 of the Karasuma-Oike Subway station ( two stops north of Kyoto station).
The rooms are small, and the air conditioning is quite noisy, but you won't stay long in the hotel with Kyoto to see. The location sells this hotel choice and the ecletic decoration (especially the bathrooms!) will make it stay in your memory a long time. |

| Guest comments | The Monterey seemed brand new. Very comfortable and clean and most of the staff spoke English. Excellent location right between 2 major subway stations on one of Kyotos main streets. Remarkeably quiet though and within walking distance of the major attractions and restaurants. |

| Guest comments | Nice modern clean rooms, but very small. I can't fault the hotel, it ticks all the box's for someone visiting Kyoto for a few days sightseeing (or business). Staff are very friendly, even by Japanese standards, Close enough to walk to all the central Kyoto activities & shops.Only problam we had was on check in, we had requested a non smoking room, and confirmed on check in that it was non smoking. however on entering the room, it was clearly most definatly a smoking room. When we pointed this out, we were asured that it was a non smoking room ? After pointing out the ashtray on the table, she disappeared for 10 minutes then reappeared with a supervisor who spoke better english and we were moved to a non smoking room. Both were extreamly appologetic about the mix up, im sure it was just another lost in translation moments of which there are many in Japan. |

| Guest comments | Had a great stay at Monterey. Friendly staff, central location, very clean and smoke free. A fair distance from JR station as station is on edge of town, but close to many attractions and subway. No English speaking T.V. channels. |
